Database Developer (SQL)
FreshBooks is looking for a skilled, self-managing developer to bring our database practices to the next level. We store and manipulate very large amounts of data, and being able to get it in front of the users that need it is critical. This is NOT a front-end development job, but rather a back-end position that will require serious SQL chops in addition to skills in a variety of languages.
Your responsibilities will include:
-Working with other developers to refine and optimize data access and storage
-Fine-tuning MySQL-specific settings and queries for best performance
-Reviewing and adapting PHP and Python apps for optimal database access
-Helping spread best practices for working with relational data
The following skills will most help you out in this:
-Query Tuning: you will be working with an existing schema that has some dark corners
-Schema Design: we've got a growing body of data and we need you to tell us how to organize it
-Project Management: day to day priorities can change, and the ability to keep track of multiple development projects is a must
Make sure you meet the following criteria before you apply for this position:
-3-5 years' experience developing stuff that connects to databases
-Strong SQL skills, obviously
-A knack for debugging other peoples' code
-Experience with multiple database platforms will be helpful. |
