DBA – Database Administrator
Summary:
Reporting to the Senior Systems Design Architecture, this role is responsible for monitoring, maintaining, and performance tuning of the databases, creating and implementing data backups. He is also to assist in the design and implementation of workflow processes applicable to this project as well as overseeing database policies and procedures that will ensure the integrity of the databases. Evaluates, selects, and implements pragmatic, cost effective emerging Internet and database technologies, with the goal of deploying a set of reliable functions to support our client’s business model.
Role:
Work with the architecture development team to develop database architectures, data search/retrieval strategies and methods.
Respond to and resolve database problems and performance issues.
Monitor database system details, suggest performance tuning, hardware upgrade.
Analyze performance/storage issues, provide improvement ideas to systems/development/architecture teams.
Help developers to create new or redesign existing table/database structure, clusters, data search/retrieval strategies and methods.
Review submitted database changes.
Assist QA team in their data related investigations.
Help Stats team with data collection and processing.
Assist management with creating or help create reports.
Responsibilities:
Design and document database architecture. Data Modeling.
Design Data Warehousing and Business Intelligence platform.
Build database scheme, tables, procedures and permissions.
Set up data sharing and disk partitioning.
Develop database utilities and automated reporting.
Create shell scripts for task automation.
Create, test and execute data management languages.
Analyze and sustain capacity and performance requirements.
Analyze, consolidate and tune database for optimal efficiency.
Monitor systems and platforms for availability..
Oversee backup, clustering, mirroring, replication and failover.
Restore and recover corrupted databases.
Install and test upgrades and patches.
Implement security and encryption.
Provide 24/7 support for critical situations.
Evaluate and recommend new database technologies.
Ensure data purges are run where applicable.
Other duties as assigned
Job Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field
Minimum of 5 years of DBA experience required
Must have at least 5 years experience working through the design, development, release cycle delivering database related software to market
Large/enterprise application development experience preferred
Strong understanding of the software development cycle
Experience in Sequel Quieres, and database
Experience solving complex and large-scare software problems
Experience bug tracking software (JIRA) tools a strong plus
A record successful delivery of database structures as an individual, Team Leader and or/Development Manager
A willingness to dive into software environments and technical issues as part of maintaining the skills necessary to manage and advocate products and projects
An entrepreneurial spirit with strong product and database management skills
Ability to work with technical and non-technical business owners to get things done
Excellent written and oral communication
Test Driven Development, MVC models, and Agile Methodology an asset
