Technical Writer
Functional Summary:
As a member of the VP&D R&D Engineering Services team, the successful candidate will write, design, and illustrate new end-user product documentation. In addition, the successful candidate will maintain existing product documentation. The position requires the ability to function in a fast-paced high-tech environment with multiple overlapping deadlines.
Job Description:
• Produce technical documentation, including writing, editing, and revising manuals.
• Create professional and functional illustrations that improve the understandability of technical documentation.
• Edit, maintain, and update manuals, which include monitoring ECOs, creating addenda, and maintaining legacy material.
• Edit manuals and other technical documentation for consistent application of technical terminology and company standard language and style, including copy editing for grammar, spelling, understandability, and usability.
• Interface with product design groups, management, and other technical writers to design and improve documentation, to meet or exceed user requirements.
• Verify technical accuracy of documentation.
• Liaise between engineering, marketing, drafting, customer service, and other subject matter experts to gather required components for the creation of manuals and other technical documentation.
• Perform reviews and technical edits of documentation as needed.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree or college diploma in English, Technical Writing or Communications.
• Minimum of 5 years experience in technical writing.
• Working knowledge of FrameMaker 8, Illustrator, Photoshop, Visio, MS Office.
Preferred Additional Skills:
• Working experience in a high technology electronics company a definite asset.
• Hands-on work on both hardware and software products.
• Excellent communication skills in a team environment.
• Strong self starter.
