Software Integration Engineer - Testing/UNIX
JOB TITLE: Software Integration Engineer - Testing/UNIX
JOB TYPE: Full-time (perm)
LOCATION: Toronto, Ontario
COMPENSATION: $65-85K
SWGi (swgi.ca) requires an accomplished software professional with experience with data manipulation and transformation using Perl and/or Unix shell scripting for their downtown software development client.
The Role:
As a successful candidate you will work in the Systems Integration group. Your primary role will be to install software developed in high level languages (Java, C++) and test it on various operating systems (Solaris, AIX, Linux, Windows) and databases (Oracle, DB2, Sybase). You should have experience with integrating and testing large, multi-component systems.
Qualifications:
Participate in software development and implementation initiatives on a range of company products
Communicate with internal stakeholders to analyze new product features and develop corresponding test cases and baselines
Develop test plans, and via a test harness, implement and execute the test cases to test new and existing software features according to the functional/technical software specifications
Analyze test harness results, investigate problems and communicate findings to stakeholders
Provide technical support to various groups within the company and, occasionally, to external customers
Expand regression test harness for new daily operations
Investigate and troubleshoot system operations and performance issues
Job Requirements:
Our client is looking for 4 basic skills, experience or competencies:
1. Systems Integration experience
2. Testing experience on large multi-component applications, particularly with white box and regression testing
3. Strong UNIX data transformation and/or scripting experience in one or more flavours of UNIX/Linux
4. Some experience in banking/financial applications. Does not have to be super extensive but candidates should have either one full lifecycle development of such a system, or experience supporting or enhancing applications in this realm.
You should have a minimum of at least 3 of the 4 basic requirements. As a part of your submission, please write a brief paragraph or two outlining how your experience lines up with these basic requirements.
Education:
The position calls for university degree or graduate degree in a quantitative discipline such as Computer Science, Mathematics or Engineering.
Special Skills:
Experience with data manipulation and transformation using Perl and/or Unix shell scripting
Comfortable working knowledge of UNIX (e.g. Solaris, Linux, AIX)
Familiarity with Object Oriented programming concepts and languages (e.g. Java, C++, etc.)
Knowledge of database concepts and programming (e.g. SQL)
Familiarity with database products (e.g. Oracle, DB2, Sybase)
Knowledge of software engineering design principles, software verification, automated testing
Strong analysis and problem solving skills
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Desirable Requirements:
Learning focused and enthusiastic, ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Ability to multitask and take initiative in resolving issues
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Work Experience:
Minimum 3 years of software development and/or testing experience.
