SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The Welder is responsible for performing daily assigned tasks from lead hands. Prerequisites include the possibilities of work assigned in other areas on a needed basis, the willingness to teach/learn machine operating technique to/from others, proven efforts to maintain work area cleanliness, and ensure safety awareness/practices for self and others in the work place. This person will ensure the quality of work by carrying out corrective actions as needed, and in reporting deviations as observed.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Position general responsibilities are as follows:
• Demonstrated ability to read blueprints / drawings
• Proven working experience with tools, preferably in manufacturing settings
• Initiative in taking corrective actions
• Ability to work shifts and overtime when requested
• Operates equipment in a safe manner, and uses safe work habits
• Welds components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions
• Clamp, hold, tack-weld, grind and/or bolt component parts to obtain required configurations and positions for welding
• Detect faulty operation of equipment and/or defective materials, and notify supervisors
• Operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments
• Monitor the fitting, burning, and welding processes to avoid overheating of parts or warping, shrinking, distortion, or expansion of material
• Examine work pieces for defects, and measure work pieces with straightedges or templates to ensure conformance with specifications
• Recognize, set up, and operate hand and power tools common to the welding trade, such as shielded metal arc and TIG and MIG welding equipment
• Physically fit
• Moderate to heavy lifting required
• Must be willing and flexible to rotate to various tasks as required
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is accomplished on the manufacturing floor. Position will interact with associates at all levels within the plant.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
• Must be an excellent team player
• Ability to read and comprehend instructions and to exercise independent judgment.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills in the English language
• Able to work with minimum supervision in a fast paced environment
• Very reliable, responsible, flexible and organized
• Ability to handle multiple tasks
• Ability to read technical drawings and specifications
• Quality awareness combined with speed
• Knowledge of metal properties.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
• Must have a valid Welding ticket for no less than – MIG, Arc (stick), TIG welding.
• Previous Hands on welding experience required
