Graphics and Web User Interface Designer
This position is to hire a graphics and web user interface designer for the Website Redesign Project. This job posting is a one-time, fixed-cost contract which will start on February 2010.
Primary Responsibilities
• Analyze the user needs and business goals and recommend up to three potential solutions
• Conceptualize the site map into graphical web design
• Create visual specifications of components and interfaces used in the web style design and options
• Work with the project team to finalize the User Interface Design (UID) document
• Present story boards of user navigation, content, graphic design and UI design elements
• Ensure that all design elements, templates and finished solutions work within a variety of browser types and screen settings
• Inform project team of project status and issues throughout the project execution in a timely
manner
Key Qualifications
• College diploma or university degree in one of the following: Computer Science, Information
Technology, Graphics Design or other similar qualification
• 2-5 years experience in web and user interface design
• Proven experience in website design utilizing current software applications such as Photoshop, FrontPage, Dreamweaver and Macromedia Flash (demonstrate experience by providing a sample of professional portfolio)
• Proficiency in XHTML, JavaScript, CSS and W3C standards
• Knowledge of UI design concepts: user centered design, highly interactive interfaces, UI heuristics and principles, business and user work flows, logical information organization and navigation,prototyping, and use case scenarios
• Possess client consultation skills (questioning, negotiating and listening) to provide options and solutions regarding the effective development of a graphical user interface
• Strong project management skills and knowledge of product development life cycle
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills
• Detailed-oriented with strong documentation skills
• Excellent oral, written and presentation skills; ability to work in a project team environment
• Able to work under tight timelines
Expected Deliverables
• From business requirements document (BRD) and Detailed Requirements Package (DRP), produce graphics and web user interface design deliverables:
o Three-level site map
o Three high-fidelity creative/design concepts of the home page and content page
o XHTML templates (no more than five templates) of the approved creative/design concept
including the associated cascading style sheets (CSS), JavaScript (JS) and other code/media required to fully render the pages. These templates must pass the W3C validation checks.
-Home page (with header, top, left and footer navigation as appropriate)
-Content page with one to three columns (depending on design) showing graphics, headers,
links, lists, tables, buttons and overlays (as appropriate)
-Form page showing fields, buttons, checkboxes, dropdowns, buttons and error/validation
messages (either inline or pop-ups)
o Website design and colour guidelines (typography, colour palette, graphics, page layout and size)
• Provide screenshots and graphics of the final design to the User Interface Design (UID) team in order to finalize the UID document.
