LAMP Web Developer
Reporting to the Director of Engineering, you are an exceptional LAMP (Linux-Apache-MySql-PHP) developer. You are self-directed and work well independently but also are collaborative and work well as part of a team. You will have the opportunity to work on a the next-generation of Canada's Local Search Engine - a high-traffic public facing site - as well as the leading-edge business tools and analytics that go with it.
You have a wide variety of skills and thrive in an environment that is constantly changing and full of challenge. You have clear communication skills and are a relationship builder who can effortlessly interface between business groups and technical departments.
The role offers tremendous opportunities to work with interesting technologies, excellent people and to work as part of a growing team. This is NOT a standard 9-5 but a high-energy, always-on, can-do web 2.0 type position with the demands and rewards of an internet start-up.
Qualifying Experience/Skills:
BSc in Computer Science or equivalent 5+ years experience in a technical environment (preferably in the internet search industry or software development industry)
Linux, Apache, PHP
XML
HTML, JavaScript, CSS
Ajax
Design and Implementation for High Performance (Low Latency, High Throughput) Systems
MySQL a plus
Ruby on Rails a plus
Exceptional Organizational, Planning, Time Management and Interpersonal Skills
Flex a plus
Competencies and Traits:
Communication - exceptional verbal and written communication skills. Ability to present thoughts, status and issues in a clear and actionable fashion
Interpersonal/Relationship .team player, highly collaborative
Proactive - see the gaps and fill them; Reactive - quick to respond, helpful
Methodical/Systematic/Analytical approach to problem resolution
Able to work with other developers, designers, and management
Able to learn about and integrate with open source and new 3rd party software very quickly and easily
Well Versed in Agile, Scrum Development Methodology
Must be fast working and able to work on short time cycles
Must also be able to work on big scale projects with timelines, deliverables
Must be well versed and experienced in professional software development release cycles - requirements, design, construction
Russian or Ukrainian is a big plus
