Manager of Information Technology
Chief Operating Officer

Sudbury, Ontario



I. Overview
Reporting to Director of IT, the IT Manager is responsible for all networking and Internet-related services to both internal (multiple sites) and external clients (partner organizations), including everything from end-user support to design, installation, and maintenance of high-availability network operations in a high-volume Application Service Provider environment. IT budget development, management of all IT staff (consisting of network administrators, technical support specialists, and helpdesk operators), all fall within the purview of the IT Manager. All IT staff report to the IT Manager. The IT Manager is a hands-on position and will work closely with other IT staff to meet the overall goals of the department.

ll.Specific Accountabilities
. IT Department operational planning, including fostering innovation, planning projects, and organizing and negotiating the allocation of resources.
. Manage the deployment, monitoring, maintenance, development, upgrade, and support of all
IT systems, including servers, PCs, operating systems, hardware, software, and peripherals.
. Benchmark, analyze, report on, and make recommendations for the improvement and growth of the IT infrastructure and IT systems.
.Oversee provision of end-user services, including help desk and technical support services.
. Work with stakeholders to defme business and systems requirements for new technology
implementations.
. Direct research on potential technology solutions in support of procurement efforts.
. Keep current with the latest technologies.
. Assist in most financial aspects of the IT Department, including purchasing,budgeting, and budget review.
. Develop business case justifications and cost/benefit analyses for IT spending and initiatives. . Develop and implement all IT policies and procedures, including those for architecture,security, disaster recovery, standards,purchasing, and service provision.
. Negotiate and administer vendor, outsourcer, and consultant contracts and service agreements. Practice asset management for IT hardware, software, and equipment.
. Manage IT staffing, including recruitment, supervision, scheduling, development, evaluation,and disciplinary actions.
. Track and maintain copies of software licenses, warranties, maintenance agreements, and
vendor contracts.
. Compare licenses, warranties, maintenance agreements, and vendor contracts against audits to ensure company's legal compliance and asset upkeep, upgrades, repair, and replacement.
. Research industry best practices and compare against organization's practices in order to establish benchmarks for managing IT assets.
