APPLICATION ADMINISTRATOR
(Full-time permanent position)

This position will provide web application and database administration support to multiple Astral Media Interactive Division Websites, including: Chaines Television Astral, MusiquePlus and Astral Television Network (Family Channel and Teletoon).
Responsibilities:
• Work in tandem with all Interactive Web Development Teams providing web application/database support.
• Core responsibilities would include managing, maintaining and monitoring all interactive web production servers comprising of both Windows and Linux (RH) systems running on VMware platform.
• Install, configure and optimize all related Web serving applications such as IIS, Apache and Resin.
• Install, configure, administer and secure Database servers/instances (MS-SQL & MySQL) along with performance analysis and tuning. Provide SQL query optimization support to Web Development Teams.
• Assist Web Development Teams in stress/load testing both web and database applications.
• Manage and maintain security policies both at system level and Network/Firewall.
• Ensure proper system and database backup strategies are managed and monitored to minimize downtime and reduce recovery time.
• Liaise with Software/Hardware/Hosting Vendors regarding Support Contracts and technical issues.
• The position also entails shared off-hours support to ensure 24/7 website availability.
Requirements:
• Proven experience and education in both Windows and Linux system administration
• Proven database administration and design experience with both MS-SQL and MySQL with strong SQL optimization skills
• Excellent interpersonal communication and organizational skills
• Strong knowledge of web development languages and tools (PHP, JSP, JavaScript, XML, CSS…)
• In-depth and thorough knowledge of web serving applications such as IIS, Apache and Resin along with web/database stress testing tools.
• Creative server/application problem solver with an open mind to learn and explore new technologies
• Experience with VMware and Checkpoint would be an asset
• Bilingualism English/French
