StewardEdge Program Technical Analyst
StewardEdge is the North American leader in the design, implementation and management of sustainable product stewardship programs. We work closely with municipalities, provincial governments and non-government organizations (NGOs) to develop effective product and packaging stewardship programs.
In Ontario, StewardEdge works on behalf of Stewardship Ontario and Ontario Electronic Stewardship (OES) to support and deliver product stewardship programs for the Ontario Blue Box, Municipal Hazardous and Special Waste (MHSW) and Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) programs. Through Stewardship Ontario and OES, industry is required to financially contribute to the cost of managing designated materials as stewards of these programs.
Our busy team-oriented office is growing and is in need of a Program Technical Analyst.
Primary duties and responsibilities include:
Key Responsibilities
Provide quantitative analytical support and research assistance in all StewardEdge service areas, particularly for Stewardship Ontario Blue Box Program. This will involve the development and management of program databases and analysis of data for policy and program development. This position reports to StewardEdge Director of Technical Services.
Generally within StewardEdge:
Provide technical support in the following areas:
Tracking waste management and stewardship issues across Canada
Technical assistance to government and non-government agencies across Canada to:
o develop data collection protocols for effective monitoring of stewardship programs
o review the cost implications of stewardship programs
o identifying effective approaches to management and appropriate funding mechanisms
o assess waste characteristics (generation and composition)
o assess the environmental implications of alternative waste management options
Analytical support to obligated companies for the end-of-life management of their products and packaging
Support to all StewardEdge staff and on all StewardEdge initiatives as required
Within Stewardship Ontario Blue Box Program
Provide analytical and research support for the Blue Box Program in the following areas:
Administration and assessment of projects under the Effectiveness and Efficiency (E&E) Fund
Analysis of data from field studies and from stewards’ reports to support program performance measurement and identify program improvements
Identification of benchmarks, best practices and opportunities to improve recycling programs
Assess new technologies for collection, processing and using recovered materials
Research and analysis to assess possible vendor standards and material tracking systems
Support to the various sub-committees and activities of the Municipal Industry Program Committee (MIPC) of the Waste Diversion Organization (WDO)
Key Skills and Qualifications
1-3 years experience working with spreadsheet and database applications and simple modeling
Exceptional problem solving and quantitative analytical skills
Engineering, business, or applied mathematics degree or equivalent experience preferable
Exceptional communication skills
Ability to work as part of a team in an office environment and to execute projects in the field
Willingness and ability to work within a highly dynamic and fast-paced environment
French language capability an asset
