Dispatcher
JOB SUMMARY:
The primary role of the Dispatcher is to complete the load dispatching processes for general highway moves according to customer expectations to ensure that their needs are met or exceeded in a timely fashion. The incumbent has thorough knowledge of industry shipping methods and carrier costs, products and services in order to match them to the customers’ needs.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Contact dependable carriers in order to negotiate needed equipment, finish loads as required, dispatch the load, update the carriers and the Customer Service Representatives with finalized booking details, update the Wheels system and participate in problem solving as required.
•Understand the wide array of carriers that are available and their capabilities in order to match them to the customers’ needs.
•Build strong relationships with the carriers assigned and share in the responsibility of the actions of the carriers.
•Optimize Wheels’ profit margin as much as possible without compromising service.
•Keep the Operations Team and the Account Managers updated on significant issues or trends.
•Analyze information received from the carriers.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
•Must be bilingual (French).
•Strong knowledge of North American geography.
•Possess a minimum of 2 to 3 years experience in the transportation industry including experience working with a third-party.
•Experience working with Quebec and East Coast carriers is a definite asset.
•Strong PC skills - Microsoft Office, e-mail and Internet usage.
•TEDS experience is a definite asset.
•Ability to translate industry knowledge into cost-effective shipping arrangements to meet customer requirements.
•Positive and proactive team player.
•Bilingual in French is an asset.
