Senior Systems Architect
Our client is a leader in enterprise-class retail wealth management solutions for Canada’s financial services industry. Their focus is to build the best technology to help their clients grow their business and to provide superior competitive advantage.
We are currently searching for a Systems Architect to take the lead in designing efficient and reusable state of the art technical design solutions, which will serve as the foundations for implementing sophisticated product requirements for the wealth management industry.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Defining Technology Standards
Develop relationships with all team members throughout the company including: Applications Development, Quality Assurance, Product Management, Professional Services, Marketing and Client Support
Establish and maintain a defined system architecture discipline in line with existing company development methodology
Liaise with third party tool/plug-in vendors to understand and validate the vendor technical architectures to ensure they are aligned with the company integration standards or, at minimum, are well understood by employees and have the necessary approvals and support from executive team
Continuously contribute to existing standards and best practices as applicable to reflect changes in technology and the business
Ensure adherence to internal standards and alignment to approved technical strategies
Process Improvements:
Identify opportunities to improve business processes by building on existing/new technologies and applications.
Work with other groups to develop and maintain a reusable and adaptable infrastructure and system roadmap that provides reduced overall complexity and increased cost efficiency.
Provide leadership and direction through technical subject matter expertise
Evaluation
Evaluate, select and design the most appropriate IS solution to solve a business request. The process involves gathering high level requirements, researching alternative solutions (buy, build, outsource), and assessing the functional gaps, cost, risks and opportunities of each solution
Perform cost-benefit analyses to determine whether requirements are best met by manual, software, or hardware functions; making maximum use of commercial off-the-shelf or already developed components.
Participate in the analysis, design, planning and implementation phases of client IT systems and infrastructure.
Responsible for the soundness or “best fit” of the proposed solution – meets functional, cost, timing, and risk requirements as expressed by sponsor
Documentation
Define and document application architecture, product development standards, design concepts and patterns
Prepare and maintain high level infrastructure and application documentation in support of project requirements and operations
Document Systems architecture environment and procedures
Implementation & Support
Conduct design and code reviews
Actively contribute to the selection process of required development, testing and implementation tools, in order to provide the final tool selection recommendation to the Vice President, Enterprise Architecture & Solutions
CORE COMPETENCIES
A minimum of 10 years work related experience in designing a variety of technology solutions with demonstrable experience related to application architecture discipline; and a solid track record of substantial contributions to projects that have resulted in successful production implementations
Excellent mentoring and leadership skills
Strong knowledge of financial services distribution industry, particularly retail business represented by Investment Dealers and Brokers
Knowledge of an Investment Advisor’s business, specifically related to their practice and activities
B.Sc./M.Sc. in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering
Java Technology Certification
Java Application Servers: JBoss, Websphere, Oracle, WebLogic
High availability infrastructure: clusters, load balancers, fail-over, host replication
Java technology EE5 stack: EJB3, JSF, JCP
Frameworks: JBoss Seam, Hibernate, Spring, Struts
Understanding SOA, ESB, Web Services standards
Strong communications skills – verbal, written and presentation
Good analytical and problem solving skills
