Junior Developer – (permanent position) (North York/ Scarborough)
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. Serves the team as a technology consultant by researching, evaluating and validating technologies to assess their potential integration into ongoing and future software development projects as an ongoing effort.
2. Develops solutions and features as approved by the development and product teams to meet the design specifications and develops/performs unit testing as defined in the test plan to meet application release criteria.
3. Supports product stabilization by addressing prioritized defects and preparing the release for deployment in a timely manner as defined by the development and product teams.
4. Participates in project-related reviews and provides feedback and suggestions to other members of the team and incorporates ideas from members of the team to facilitate continuous improvement of the product and development process.
5. Performs at or above the department’s performance standard, specifically for procedures development and analysis. Accurately records time spent on project and tasks.
6. Fulfills departmental requirements in terms of providing work coverage and administrative notification during periods of personnel illness, vacation, or education.
Educational and Skills Requirements
1. BS or BA level degree in computer science, engineering, or equivalent professional experience.
2. Minimum of 1 year experience or equivalent developing with PHP, Symfony, Java, Ajax/DHTML/JavaScript, CSS and MySql.
3. Consumer web application development.
4. Working knowledge of Information Retrieval using various API’s and Web Crawlers
5. Familiarity with object oriented analysis and modeling concepts and practices.
6. Familiarity with Java and Distributed Computing.
7. Analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills. Must be detail-oriented with emphasis on quality and a proven ability and desire to learn and apply new technologies.
8. Ability to work collaboratively within a cross-functional team environment to bring projects to completion in a fast paced, customer-focused, changing environment.
