Project Manager

PURPOSE OF POSITION:
The purpose of this position is to provide overall management for assigned projects. Project Managers at this level will work closely with senior resources and the resources of other Symcor departments to define scope of projects and prepare all necessary documentation to formally initiate a project with minimal client exposure at this level. May lead the work of one function of a multi-disciplinary team. Project managers are responsible for ensuring that quality standards are adhered to and that projects are completed on time, on specification and on budget. Project Managers must ensure that the Project Management methodology is followed in the daily course of their work.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manage projects assigned with up to 10 team members and a manpower budget of $200,000 - $500,000 (can be converted to man days) including management of project charter, project plan and detailed implementation plan.
Client exposure is generally limited at this level.
Domain of change is minor (see attached table)
Ensure projects assigned are delivered on time, on scope, on budget. Closely monitor timelines and project costs to ensure adherence with approved project plans. Variances to plan will be documented, reported and escalated if required.
Responsible for communication management (i.e. the preparation of project, client and executive reports).
Assist in the preparation of documents, which may include Statements of Work, estimates, requirements analysis for projects etc.
Manage the efforts of people/project resources. Allocate resources and organize available resources effectively.
Contribute to internal presentations concerning project scope, timeline, activities, issues, budget and progress as required.
Manage project sponsor expectations
Prepare project timelines (with input from work package owners) and assist with the determination of a project scope that is scheduled in manageable components. Aggressively protect the project's scope to ensure that scope creep does not result by enforcing change management procedures.
Work with the project team to identify and anticipate issues and risks. Be prepared to manage issues and risks that may arise and escalate those that are unresolved to senior project management to ensure that possible actions will mitigate these.
Participate in team meetings to communicate progress, status, issues, assignments and urgency.
Perform and document post-project reviews with assistance from senior project management
POSITION REQUIREMENTS, EDUCATION, and EXPERIENCE:
Must have 1 - 3 years of IT experience in any of the following areas: Systems Analysis, Development, Support, Testing, Maintenance or supervisory experience.*
Must have 1+ years of Project Management experience as a Project Leader.*
Knowledge of the Project Management Institute's approach to Project Management and demonstrated successful completion of an introduction to Project Management course.
University degree in a related field is preferable
Position may require minimal travel to Symcor sites across Canada.
Position may require "off-hours" support during implementations as Symcor's business operates during the evening and early morning shifts.
